The fields and olive groves in the province of Puglia, Italy have been shaped by thousands of years of agriculture practices. When I began photographing there in 2013, the landscape seemed a miraculously harmonious meeting of nature and culture. During the past five years, a bacterium called Xylella fastidosa has killed millions of olive trees in Italy. Puglia has been badly impacted. Many trees up to one thousand years old have succumbed to this deadly pathogen in a short time.
